Check out my cute new headband from Headbands of Hope! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ They are an amazing company that donates one headband to a child with an illness for every headband purchased. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The founder saw how much joy a simple headband brought kiddos that lost their hair to chemotherapy and thus, Headband of Hope was formed! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As a childhood cancer survivor, it melts my heart that @headbandsofhope is able to bring such happiness to these warrior kids. 🎗❤

Weekends are my decompression time these days and I cherish them greatly, as I know my mind needs to rest after the long week. On this special edition of #selfcaresaturday, I am enjoying some macarons from @favoritedaytreats, having some zen time with my favorite self care book, and getting a massage later this afternoon. And I'll throw in a Peloton workout this evening because exercising is also a great form of self care. 😉 Are you showing yourself some love today? If not, this is your sign to do so. 💙

New kicks. I have been testing out these beats from @roxy for the last couple of days at work. They are 1️⃣0️⃣/1️⃣0️⃣ on comfort and style. I much prefer shoes that feel good on my feet versus ones that are trendy but these hit both marks. Andddd I did the happy dance when purchasing them from @famousfootwear...as they were on sale for $25. 😁 So I'm curious, friends. Do you buy shoes based mainly off of comfort, style, or both?

A great reminder. 💙⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Oftentimes, we find ourselves trapped within our own mind. As a sufferer of chronic anxiety, I find myself "spiraling" into the land of irrational thoughts that I understand and recognize are not true but my mind tricks me into believing they are. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Maybe this aching pain in my elbow is bone cancer." "Oh my God...Avery is sleeping a lot more, is he sick?" "I have a really bad headache...is my brain tumor growing?" "What happens if I'm out shopping and there is an active shooter?" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ These thoughts can easily spin me out of control and take me down a not-so-good path. My therapist has been working with me on coming up with an alternate response in these scenarios. When an event comes up, it triggers a thought. I acknowledge what the thought is. Then, I think through the consequence (ex: how that thought made me feel - anxious, scared, worried, etc.) Then, I think through the alternative response. This helps me rationalize and while I still am anxious, I have noticed I "come out of the spiral" much faster than I have in the past. As I've said before, I acknowledge that I'll always have anxiety but I work everyday to ensure I can use my mind to be more of an instrument for mindfulness. If you are interested in a copy of the thought log I use, let me know and I'll DM it to you!

I think someone crashed my shot. 🐦😅 Are you a fan of birds? When I was a little girl, I had 5 parakeets and absolutely loved them. This was PCT (pre-cat lady times.) My gram had a dusky conure named George, who I also loved dearly. If kitties didn't have the instinct to go after birds, I definitely would have some parakeets or other little birds to listen to, as I love their beautiful bird songs! Also, if you are on Tiktok...check out Kiki.tiel. One of my favorite birds of the tok to watch!!

Yo, you ever just have a week where you need a drink even when you aren't a huge drinker? 🤣 I am not going to lie, though, I do love me some White Claws and was stoked when I found iced tea flavors! So crack open a drink with me and enjoy the beginning of a transition in my feed. Had a blast paddleboarding today! And for those of you wondering after last week's post...no, I did not fall this time either. 🤣 It rained all morning but cleared up about an hour beforehand so I am very thankful for that. The lake is just so serene and peaceful and was definitely a much needed thing this weekend! Thank you, @cbusmetroparks for such awesome (and free) events for the public! If you're near Columbus, you can sign up for Metro Parks events by either going to their website or by going to their Facebook page. One of the gals there said they will be doing kayaking and paddleboarding every week throughout September, more than likely so plenty of opportunities to get out on the water.

A difficult journey is to let go what we are holding in to pave the way for something better. I used to not share the fact that I have horrible anxiety, as I didn't want to be perceived as weak. Once I decided that I didn't really care anymore about what people would think, I started talking about it. And I found that I am not alone in the least. I found support and kindness. And I started going back to therapy...which has helped immensely with dealing with losing gram and also is helping me learn to manage my anxiety better. My anxiety will never go away. I've had it since I was a kid and I would be silly to think someday I'll be anxiety free. But I at least am freely talking about it now and continuing on my self care journey to live with it as mindfully as possible. 💙

So bring me two piña coladas. One for each end. 🍹😎⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Take a close look at this photo. The Whitsundays have some pretty dramatic tides. We were absolutely in awe by them! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Did you know there are roughly 74 Whitsunday islands in Australia? They have some of the most beautiful beaches around, including a stunning heart shaped reef. Not to mention some amazing snorkeling and scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While we probably won't be heading back to Australia anytime soon, we do have a tentative plan to head to another gorgeous beachy destination this October...as long as everything lines up! I'm so excited to begin traveling again as I had been in hermit mode for so long! Stay tuned in coming months to find out where we are planning on going. 😉
